NAIROBI, KENYA – 18/03/2022 – Techstars Startup Weekend Social Impact will be held from the 1st to 3rd of April 2022 at Adanian Labs, Rhapta Road, Westlands (Nairobi). The goal of the
Startup Weekend is to create an environment where passionate, driven, and like-minded people can come together with ideas to solve some of their community’s pressing social and economic
problems through creative solutions that provide impact in the community.

Startup Weekend is a flagship program by Techstars, an global seed accelerator that has accepted more than 2,900 companies and has a combined market capitalization of more than
159B USD. The model seeks to support participants to move from innovation to entrepreneur in 54 hours.

The event is open to participants from varying backgrounds, such as designers, students, business specialists, developers, engineers, and doctors, and not only targeting those in the
technology space, but those with an innovative mind who are keen to learn and share with others.

Over the course of the in-person social impact weekend, participants will pitch various ideas and form teams around them. With the help of mentors and coaches, the teams will learn how to
apply leading methodologies to refine their ideas into a prototype. During the final session of the Techstars Startup Weekend, teams will have five minutes to pitch their ideas to a panel of
judges and a winner is selected.

Tickets to the three-day event, at a cost of KSHS 2,500, are available on the registration link here: https://event.techstars.com/e/techstars-startup-weekend-social-impact-nairobi.

“Startup Weekend is an amazing global event that will give Kenyans the opportunity to build a business from scratch while getting mentorship and useful feedback,” said Innocent Magothe,
one of the organisers of the event.

For this year’s event, we have partnered with Adanian Labs as our lead partner and sponsor. Adanian Labs is a venture builder focused on providing a platform for African Tech startups to
grow through provision of funding, technical assistance, go to market support, and mentorship. They have a presence in 5 countries across Africa with a deep network of ecosystem players
from the startup scene in Africa.

This is the third edition of Techstars Startup Weekend being held within the last two years and the organisers have made necessary precautions to ensure the highest level of safety and social
distance measures in line with government COVID-19 regulations.

The last edition was held in July 2021 at Haft O Hasht Kenya Innovation Hub, and was attended by more than 50 participants. The event saw participants innovating around diversity and
inclusion. This was done in collaboration with Light for the World, an organisation whose mission is to support sustainable work opportunities for people with disabilities. All attendees,
including mentors and judges, were also trained on best practises to support people with various disabilities. “Diversity and Inclusion speaks to Techstars’ vision to create a global
entrepreneurial network that reflects the diversity we see in the world and making innovation accessible to anyone, anywhere,” said Jesse Muraya, an organiser of the event.

The partners, mentors, judges, and sponsors from this edition are drawn from entities such as Xetova, UNDP, Icon Radio, UNEP, Safaricom, Open Capital, Liquid Intelligent Technologies, Pong
Agencies, Adanian Labs, to name a few. In the previous editions, there was representation from Facebook, The Watson Institute, Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, University
of Hawaii, Standard Chartered Ventures (Standard Chartered Bank), and IBM Africa.
