Kenyan artist Vicmass Luodollar recently sat down with Bloga Flani at Icon Radio to reflect on his music career, which is now celebrating a decade of his iconic album Bank Otuch. The conversation was filled with rich insights into his journey, the lessons he’s learned, and the evolving landscape of the Kenyan music industry.

Vicmass spoke passionately about the importance of music ownership, urging artists to take control of their work by registering with Collective Management Organizations (CMOs) to ensure they own their masters. “It’s essential for artists to understand the value of their own music,” he said. “Owning your masters means owning your future. You get the full benefit of your hard work.”
One of the highlights of the discussion was Vicmass’s gratitude toward music bloggers. He acknowledged the role they play in shaping the industry by offering constructive criticism. “Bloggers like Bloga Flani are doing a great job of guiding artists in the right direction,” he noted. “They help us reflect on our music and performance, which ultimately helps the industry grow.” In an industry that can sometimes be driven by hype, constructive feedback is invaluable for the growth of both emerging and established artists.

During the conversation, Vicmass also opened up about his own struggles and mistakes in the Kenyan music scene. One of the most memorable moments was when he shared a story about missing an important radio interview at Milele FM due to poor time management. “It was a crazy moment,” he admitted with a laugh. “I didn’t respect people’s time, and I learned the hard way. Now, I make sure to be punctual, whether it’s for a radio interview, a recording session, or a meeting.” This humility and growth speak to the artist’s evolution, both as a professional and as a person.
Vicmass also took the time to praise Bloga Flani and Icon Radio for providing a platform that not only showcases local talent but also fosters improvement and growth within the industry. “Icon Radio and Bloga Flani are creating a space where artists can thrive, grow, and improve,” he said. “We need more of this in Kenya if we want our music industry to truly evolve.”

As Vicmass celebrates 10 years of Bank Otuch, his message is clear: growth is a journey. It requires patience, discipline, and, most importantly, the ability to learn from mistakes. The future of Kenyan music looks bright with artists like him leading the way.
