Sauti Sol’s final performance before they take, what they like to call a “hiatus”, was nothing less than iconic. They took their final bow in front of 15,000 diehard fans, friends and family last night at the Uhuru Gardens monument. And this is how it went down ….

The night started off with performances from Nviiri, Bensoul and Sol Generation’s beneficiary girl group Press Play.

The stage was set with enormous screens, an impressive light show, pyrotechnics, live streaming of the concert and a well put together backline that consisted of Iconic pianist Aaron Rimbui and drummer Amani Baya.

The four man band came out to an ecstatic crowd who couldn’t hide their excitement despite the muddy grounds. They started their set with their famous hit that first put them in the limelight “Lazizi”. Then one after the other, their famous collaborators got on stage to lend a voice to their collaborative hits. From Dela, P Unit (whose performance was cut short by Sauti Sol when they thought people were putting themselves in danger, as they tried to squeeze themselves inside the tent. The crowd was frantically trying to get a way from the drizzling rain. However, the crowd soon got themselves settled enough to call them back onto the stage to continue on with their performance) …. Khaligraph Jones, Nyashinski, Crazy Kennar, Lisa Oduor, Bensoul and Nviiri.

They finished off their set with hits from their last album “Midnight Train”. It was topped off with a fireworks display and an emotional speech from the band before they took their final bow.

They are the first band in Kenya to leave their fans with some sort of closure and a memorable send off to their twenty year journey.

In the words of Nyashinski …. ” LONG LIVE SAUTI SOL”
