The heartfelt Hip-Hop love ballad arrives with a story nearly two decades in the making, combining nostalgic production, honest songwriting, and a seamless collaboration between artists from Kenya’s Coast and Nairobi. Inspired by both the biting chill of Kenya’s July cold season and the emotional coldness that follows the loss of love, Baridi Kali explores the longing, vulnerability, and memories that linger after a relationship comes to an end.
Ken Koast is joined by Mercury, Little Heaven, and Cece The GOAT in what feels like a natural meeting of musical worlds. While Ken Koast, Mercury, and Little Heaven all represent Mombasa’s rich Hip-Hop scene, Cece The GOAT brings the voice of Ngong, Nairobi, creating a collaboration that blends regional influences into one cohesive record.
Each artist contributes a unique layer to the song. Ken Koast opens the record by effortlessly switching between a melodic chorus and a lyrical rap verse, highlighting his versatility as both a vocalist and emcee. Mercury injects the track with an infectious fusion of R&B, Pidgin, and Patois, while Little Heaven delivers reflective verses filled with poetic imagery that evoke the charm of handwritten love letters. Cece The GOAT closes the song with a captivating performance that weaves together soulful vocals and confident lyricism, offering a heartfelt feminine perspective that completes the story.
Adding to the record’s timeless character is its vintage two-step groove, a stylistic choice that gives Baridi Kali a warm, nostalgic feel while allowing its message to resonate across generations.
The story behind the production is just as compelling as the music itself. According to Ken Koast, the instrumental’s earliest foundation dates back to 2007, when its original template was created by SoSevia, the founding producer of Esoteric Records. For years, the beat remained unfinished until an unexpected studio session changed everything.
“The beat had existed in its barebones form for years, but Baridi Kali only truly came to life in November 2024 after GrandmastaTek breathed new life into the instrumental during a random studio session where all four of us just happened to be in the same room. None of it was planned—it all came together naturally, and that organic chemistry is what you hear in the final recording. We later shot the music video in January 2026, and everything fell into place in its own time,” Ken Koast said.
For Ken Koast, the journey of Baridi Kali reflects a belief that meaningful art cannot be forced. Instead, it arrives when the time is right—a philosophy that has shaped both the song’s creation and its eventual release.
With emotionally rich performances, timeless production, and a collaboration that bridges Kenya’s Coast and Nairobi, Baridi Kali is more than a love song. It is a reminder that some records aren’t defined by how quickly they are made, but by the lasting impact they leave once they finally reach the world.
