Their innovations span clean energy alternatives such as plastic-to-gas and bioethanol, smart agriculture powered by IoT and AI, circular economy solutions like biodegradable leather and recycled construction materials, and climate technologies including biogas storage systems, forest monitoring sensors, and democratized carbon credit platforms.
According to KCDF, the projects were selected for their environmental impact, scalability, and ability to empower communities while creating economic opportunities.
“These young innovators are not just problem solvers; they are architects of Kenya’s sustainable future,” KCDF emphasized at the awarding ceremony.
During the event, KCDF also unveiled the third edition of the Young Environmentalist Innovation Challenge under the theme “Scaling Innovations for Environmental Impact.” This next phase aims to expand proven solutions that have already demonstrated success at the community level, focusing on pressing issues such as:
Climate resilience
Sustainable agriculture

The challenge remains open to youth aged 15–35, with applications now available on the KCDF website: www.kcdf.or.ke.
