President William Ruto has just dissolved his entire cabinet and the Attorney General in response to recent national unrest and criticisms of his administration’s handling of various issues. The only exceptions to this dissolution are Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who have retained their positions

This drastic move follows nationwide protests against the proposed tax measures in the Finance Bill 2024, which led to significant unrest, destruction, and public dissatisfaction. President Ruto acknowledged the need for substantial changes in the government’s approach, emphasizing the importance of aligning with the evolving needs of the country.

Several key steps are expected to take place following the dissolution:

Formation of a New Cabinet: President Ruto will likely appoint new cabinet secretaries to replace those dismissed, selecting individuals who can address current challenges and restore public confidence.
Reorganization and Streamlining: The dissolution aims to eliminate inefficiencies and overlapping functions within the government, potentially merging or restructuring various ministries and state agencies.
Focus on Service Delivery: The new cabinet is expected to prioritize improving service delivery to the public, addressing economic challenges, and implementing policies aligned with the government’s goals.
