Grand Theft Auto Video Game suffers leak months before release
The developer, Rockstar Games, has confirmed that its confidential information was illegally downloaded after an unprecedented and unexpected leak revealed early footage of its next video game in action.
Named as the biggest leak in gaming history, gameplay footage of Grand Theft Auto VI was posted online on Sunday. It’s the highly anticipated sequel to Grand Theft Auto V, which is one of the most successful games in history, sellingĀ 169 million copiesĀ and generating over $6 billion in revenue since its initial 2013 release.
DeveloperĀ Rockstar acknowledged on MondayĀ that it “suffered a network intrusion in which an unauthorized third party illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information” that included early development footage for the next Grand Theft Auto.
A user on GTAforums on reddit appears to be behind the leak and posted almost 100 videos of the game in action, which were later removed by moderators. Copies of the videos posted to Twitter were also removed in response to copyright reports.
