The internet was shut down on September 9th after Khaligraph posted a picture on his official Instagram page. The picture had him and his rap nemesis Octopizzo standing together, both in yellow, captioned- Champez- his newly released single. Ten minutes later Octopizzo jumps onto the comments section and comments “ALAAA ALAA Allahu akbar,” along with two laughing emojis. Could we be smelling a collaboration in the future?

It is common in hip hop to have nemesis and competitors, artists usually ride on this to rattle their fans against each other and most to get more sales out of the diss records. This goes way back to the fathers of hip hop- Biggy and Tupac. In Kenya, though the biggest rivalry has been between Khaligraph Jones and Octopizzo which lasted over a decade. It started way back in 2013 when Octopizzo denied knowing Khaligraph in an interview after they had just performed in one of the local underground shows before either of them had made a name for themselves.

A year later in February 2014, Papa Jones did a vicious diss track aimed at Octopizzo. On the track, the rapper referenced Octo’s mzungu wife, claiming she’s the one who funded the Young Puffy artist’s career.

“And since nianze kupata fame na pesa kuna mzee ako na machungu (say what),

He has admitted, in numerous interviews that he has no issues reconciling with his longtime nemesis and that he never took the beef personally. In his song, “Yes Bana”, he says, “Na mi sina beef na Ohanga (Sipendi). Ohanga hunitaki kwa nini? (Yes bana). Mbona usifanye traki na mimi? (Yes bana).”

The two have been going on each other case for roughly a decade now. Could the Instagram post mean the end of an era and may a possibility of a collabo or is it just a game?
