Students from AFTTTI Training Institute, led by the Dean Edwine Agesa and accompanied by the Marketing Officer and Head of Admissions Yvone Mwangi, had a rare and inspiring opportunity to attend the Nairobi Film Festival, thanks to an invitation extended by Icon Radio. The event came shortly after the Dean hosted American-Ugandan Hollywood actor and filmmaker Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine at the institute during the Certified Cinema show on Icon Radio, hosted by CampesX, on Thursday, October 23.

During the engaging session, Dean Agesa shared his vision of empowering local filmmakers to tell authentic African stories with the quality and reach to stand on international stages. Ntare, best known for his roles in Queen of Katwe and The Chi, resonated deeply with this vision and extended a personal invitation to the AFTTTI team to attend a special film screening the following day.

The Friday screening at Prestige Plaza, along Ngong Road, featured Ntare’s deeply personal and reflective film titled “Memories of Love Returned.” The film, which continues to run at Kaloleni Social Hall on Saturday, October 25, left the audience moved and inspired. It captures Ntare’s emotional journey of revisiting his roots ,from his upbringing in the United States to reconnecting with his Ugandan heritage. The narrative intertwines family bonds, the delicate fabric of identity, and his triumphant battle with prostate cancer, creating a story that is both raw and uplifting.

For the AFTTTI students, the screening was more than just a cinematic outing — it was a masterclass in storytelling. They learned how a seemingly simple concept, like following the life of a small-town photographer in rural Uganda, could evolve into a profound exploration of humanity and belonging. The film’s soundtrack, especially the inclusion of Kasongo Yeye, added a nostalgic and culturally rich dimension that resonated with many Kenyans in attendance.

As the lights dimmed and the credits rolled, one message stood clear: powerful storytelling doesn’t always come from big budgets or global studios, it starts with authenticity and heart. For the young filmmakers at AFTTTI, Memories of Love Returned was more than a film , it was a reminder that Africa’s stories, when told with honesty and care, can touch the world.
