Music streaming app Spotify has released its 2021 Wrapped Report. The report seeks to share statistics of the music consumption by Kenyans on the app. According to the report Singer Nviiri The Storyteller’s hit Niko Sawa featuring Bien is still the most streamed song on Spotify. It comes before Omah Lay’s Understand, Lil Nas X’s Montero, Levitating by Dua Lipa featuring DaBaby, and Kiss Me More by Doja Cat featuring SZA in that order.

Niko Sawa seems to be the star song of the Kitenge EP. It was still the leading song in the previous September Spotify report. The song further earned Nviiri a nomination in the Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa category in the recently concluded AFRIMA.

Gengetone’s, Mbuzi Gang’s Shamra Shamra is the most prominent Gengetone hit on the app. Cheza Kama Wewe by Trio Mio comes 2nd followed by Nyashinski’s & Chris Kaiga’s Hapo Tu, Chris Kaiga’s Zimenice, and Willis Raburu’s Kalale in the 3rd, 4th and 5th positions respectively. On the app’s daily playlists, the Hot Hits Kenya, which purely features Kenyan music, is the 4th most-streamed playlist on the app.

Spotify is a Swedish audio streaming and media services provider founded on 23 April 2006 by Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon. It is the world’s largest music streaming service provider, with over 381 million monthly active users, including 172 million paying subscribers, as of September 2021.
