With the current ongoing protests in Kenya, Farah Maalim, the Member of Parliament for Dadaab in Kenya, recently made highly controversial remarks suggesting the slaughter of 5,000 “Gen Z” individuals. He stated that this slaughter would happen if he were president, citing the protests as a distraction to business and claiming that the protestors were children of the rich who were being dropped off to disrupt the government and overthrow it, labeling it an attempted coup.

These statements were made in the context of broader regional conflicts and discussions about mobilizing youth for potential violence, and they have been widely condemned as irresponsible and inflammatory, with calls for Maalim to clarify whether his comments were personal or represented the government’s stance  .These comments have sparked significant outrage, particularly among the youth, who have demanded a public apology from Maalim

In addition to this, Maalim has been involved in other contentious issues. During the inauguration of the Puntland President earlier this year, he faced backlash for suggesting the mobilization of youth from Garissa to fight Ethiopians. This led to the Patriotic Youth of Kenya condemning his remarks and demanding a public apology, stressing the importance of peaceful conflict resolution. Furthermore, Maalim, along with other leaders from Northern Kenya, criticized Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for his comments on the National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director-General Noordin Haji, accusing Gachagua of trying to destabilize the government and jeopardize national security .
