Wizkid Essence album just got to platinum last month. This is another milestone from the Nigerian artist who just received a certified platinum plaque for his album ‘Made in Lagos’ which he collaborated with fellow artist Tems.

This new feed makes Wikid the first African artist to have the song Essence certified in the Record Industry Certified Association of America (RIAA). This means that the song “Essence” has sold more than 100 million copies in the US.

Receiving his Plaque Wizkid said, “To actually think we have this far from Nigeria Lagos, is crazy. I appreciate you Tems, you’re a superstar. We have a platinum record, I’d like to say thank you to the producers and my team. We have made an important record and thank you so much for all the support.”

The version that got platinum is the one without Justin Bieber. The remix with Justin Bieber was ranked at number 11 at the Hot 100 by the time the song was receiving platinum records.

There has been a wave of different sounds before, the reggae sound went Platinum with Sean Paul, K pop with BTS, Latin music, and now it seems it’s Africa’s time with the Afrobeat sound. It is clear that the world has a hunger for the African Afrobeat and we hope that Africans Artists are getting to churn out the content.

Congratulations to Wizkid and Tems.
